History


A pioneering university in Catalonia. La Salle Campus Barcelona is a Catalonian institution based on Christian beliefs and founded by the Christian Brothers.

The first university studies at La Salle Bonanova are from 1903, with the specialties in Electric Engineering, Mechanics and Chemistry.

 


In those days, La Salle was a pioneer School that satisfied the demands of the Catalonian industry.

 

 

 

  • 1964-65: the first group of 25 students specialized in Electronic Equipments. They did their exams in the Official School of Madrid. La Salle was the first and only University School to offer the specialty of Telecommunications in Catalonia.
  • May 12th, 1970: The Ministry of Education and Science approved the course of Technical Engineering in Telecommunications and Radio-Electronics Engineering.
  • 1976: La Salle registered at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
  • June 18th, 1979: La Salle received the Ministry authorization to teach the specialty of Sound and Image.
  • 1984-1985: La Salle’s Master programmes started with the International MBA. This was possible because of the big experience that La Salle at the USA had as the result of their relationship with the most prestigious business schools and of the collaboration of a qualified faculty contrasted with their business experience. The collaboration of the American Business Schools has made the difference in our programmes: the internationalization and the globalization of our contents, teachers and students.
  • May 10th, 1991: because of the Parliamentary Law of Catalonia (DOGC 22/05/91) the first private university in Spain was recognized: The Ramon Llull University. La Salle is cofounder with the Chemistry Institute of Sarria, the Blanquerna Foundation, the Philosophy Faculty of Catalonia and the Economic Circle. According to this Law, La Salle incorporates two Schools to the new Ramon Llull University: the Telecommunication Technical Engineering University School and the new Electronics and Informatics Engineering University School.
  • 1994-95: the Master in Information Technology Management began. This has been consolidated as a key programme for the director's training in ICT Systems and for Catalonian Enterprises.
  • 1996-97: La Salle created the Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Engineering with Technical and Higher degree which was pioneer in Catalonia, Spain and Europe.
  • January 30th, 1997: the Academic Assembly of the Ramon Llull University approved the creation of the Technical and Higher School of Architecture.
  • 1997-98: this year, La Salle promoted as a consequence of the internationalization process of the Business and the Information Technology Areas, its Postgraduate Educational Programme aimed at professionals to solve the training needs of the Catalonian entrepreneurs. New programmes in Management, Engineering and Architecture were developed.
  • 1999-2000: studies in Higher Telecommunication Engineering began.
  • 2000: the groundbreaking ceremony of the Technological and Business Innovation Park took place. Nowadays it’s called La Salle Technova Barcelona.
  • 2001-2002: La Salle developed a new e-learning methodology that combines the education on campus and online. The Scholarship Program is also created to help national and international master students.  
  • 2002-2003: the BBA international studies taught in English and based on the two decades-experience of doing International MBAs and Executive MBAs began. This decision increased the student interchange among La Salle and other universities.
  • 2003-2004: the UserLab was opened. This is a usability laboratory where home and work environments are reconstructed to help entrepreneurs study the user's behavior when they are in contact with their products.
  • 2004-2005: La Salle signed an agreement with the CIDET Postgraduate School to open an office of La Salle Campus Barcelona in Manresa where the Executive MBA is taught.
  • 2005-2006: The BCN Digital Room was opened. This is a house-laboratory that informs about technologies and its applications in building engineering. It also allows the enterprises to make proves for the integration of technology in their buildings.
  • 2006-2007: La Salle began to teach the Executive MBA in Campus Tarragona and Campus Girona because an agreement with the EGE School.
  • 2007-2008: the MediaLab was opened. This is a unique laboratory in south Europe that allows capturing human movements through the Motion Capture technology. It is very used in multimedia production of videogames, special effects, 3D applications, animated movies and publicity spots.
  • 2008-2009: the Bachelor’s degree in ICT Management Engineering was created. This programme combines the management and technology studies in the same course, so students can have more professional opportunities in their future.
  • 2009-2010: the Experiential MBA Online started. This is the only master in business management that uses the learning by doing methodology which bases learning in making the students solve real problems. The teaching materials include audiovisual aids integrated to the formative programme.

The Media Technology Department of Campus La Salle opens a new multidisciplinary space unique in Spain which allows the development of multimedia projects in a room adapted specially to make technology and creativity flow in harmony.
